Scenes from the family compound

In the early aftermath of Hurricane Ike, there wasn't much available for us to do. After the storm made landfall in the wee hours of the morning, and with only a few actual hours of sleep, we spent the following rainy day without power sitting in the house with 15 other people. Here are some ideas of what to do if you're ever in that situation.

Watch KHOU on battery powered television. (Remember this tv will be useless in Feb. 2009 unless they make a battery powered digital antenna box to go with it.)

Attempt to make coffee by boiling water on the gas stove and pouring it through the grounds and filter into the pot. Let's see, wasn't there such a thing as a percolator about thirty years ago?

Read, usually best if done with an outside window at your back so you have some light.

Kiss the baby.
