Rodeo Art

In January, Cameron came home with a little postcard advertising a Rodeo Art show at The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake. On the back of the postcard someone had written, "Cameron - Congratulations!" She received no other information from her teacher. When I asked her whether she had done a lesson in her art class related to the rodeo, she replied that she had painted a picture of a horse rearing.

Still not quite sure what the Rodeo Art exhibition was all about, but fairly certain Cameron's picture must be on display, I made arrangements to take off the afternoon from work so I could take her to the reception for elementary grades.

Crowds of parents and children packed the two-story multi-room exhibit space. This exhibit included the top 2 or 3 pieces of art in each grade from each school in our District. Another nearby District displayed their art on the second floor.

A little overwhelmed, we signed in, accepted a program, and began walking around looking for Cameron's painting. Fifth grade art lined the back wall downstairs and Cameron's eyes spotted it first.

Then we realized it had a blue first place ribbon attached!! All three of us were so proud and there was quite a bit of blushing, hugging, and congratulating! We took photos with the new camera and the iPhone to send immediately to Daddy, Aunt Amanda, and other family.

I think she must have received some inspiration from brilliant sunsets at Silver Belle Ranch and her love of all-things-horse related from riding this past year.

School Awards Ceremonies

I know I haven't blogged the last day of school, and to be perfectly honest..... I forgot to take a picture of the girls on the last day! I had the camera - I just forgot in the bustle of getting them to school that morning.


The school held their grade level award ceremonies on the day before the last day. Kindergarten and 1st grade were at 9 a.m. so I dropped them off and sat in car in the parking lot doing some work until it was time to go in. I'm glad Ms. G. told me to attend because Brenna received a Sunshine Smile Certificate and she was SO PROUD.



I went back to work until the 2rd and 3rd grade awards at 2 p.m. Cameron stood in recognition of all A's in the 3rd nine weeks and then stood again for all A's in the 4th nine weeks. Oops, this is how we found out she had straight A's in this last report card. Then she received a certificate for all A's all year, which is wrong - her first Social Studies grade was a B.


She also received an ARP trophy for having the highest ARP points in the entire third grade (147). ARP is the Accelerated Reading Program where students take computerized tests on books they have read to earn points. Even though the school library won't check out a Harry Potter book to a 3rd grader (5th grade only), the titles are heavy in points to the student who takes the ARP test for them, and she took the test for the first six books.


I feel confident saying that both girls had a very productive year in school and are looking forward to both some "time off" this summer, but a happy return in August.

Responsible

Today the elementary school conducted their semi-annual Awards Ceremony. Cameron received the Thunderbird "Pillar" Responsibility Award and a certificate of recognition for participating in the Science Fair. She also got to stand and be recognized for All A's, One B Honor Roll in the first 9 weeks, and All A's Honor Roll in the second 9 weeks.

Poor Brenna spent the day at home sick with a fever, so she missed the Awards program and anything that might have been given to her. She will just have to attend the one in May.

Awards & Accidents

Today at work I received my 5 year service award. It's hard to believe I've been here five years already. The university holds a very nice ceremony for service and Presidential Distinguished Awards followed by a catered (Aramark) lunch. I left the office at 10:19 a.m. to join the other librarians headed into the Atrium. At 10:20 a.m. Brenna's preschool called me. They also called my cell phone, which I had left in my purse, in my office. When I returned to the office, placque in hand, in a jovial mood from having a really good time, I found the two voice mails. "Mrs. Kelly, this is R... please call me." Same message from Bryan.

Brenna fell off a chair while playing in home center and split open the skin just above her eye. When they couldn't reach me, they called Bryan, and he had to leave an installation job downtown to pick her up. Someone also called my mom, who headed our direction. By the time I called in, Bryan had taken her to our pediatrician. Have I ever said how much we love and adore our pediatrician!? Thankfully, she didn't need stitches even though the cut was very deep. The doctor applied some kind of wound glue and put on a piece of tape. While she was there, she checked over shot records and gave Brenna her Hep booster.

Poor baby - a bloody gash, no stitches, but a shot! Not one tear.

She's a little proud that she and Daddy will share a scar. Bryan gashed the opposite eye, same place below the eyebrow, when he was about 7. He had stitches of course, and has a nice little tuff-looking scar.

Did I happen to mention today was Class Picture Day? With Higgins Photography. And real live bunny rabbits? Brenna wore a pink Easter dress, which I'm told had blood all over it, but the preschool washed it out. I'm also told that she took her pictures, both class and individual, while waiting for Daddy to show up. They just turned her head.... just so... I guess these will be pictures to remember. She hasn't really talked about the bunny rabbit though.
